An estimated 272 million children and youth are out of school worldwide, with many more attending school but not achieving basic foundational learning outcomes. Education is essential to ending poverty, yet millions of children are still denied access to quality education
- Currently, 78 million children of primary school age, 64 million children of lower secondary school age, and 31% of youth of upper secondary school age (130 million) are out of school
- 133 million girls are out of school
- Nearly 1 in 5 children globally live in conflict zones
- 42% of children with disability are less likely to have foundational reading and numeracy skills
