Earlier today the APPG on Global Education was joined by Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Yasmine Sherif, for a meeting to discuss ECW’s work on education in emergencies, and the UK’s role as a leader in global education.
The UK is the leading donor to ECW and played an instrumental role in both its establishment and recent success and development. The conversation explored ECW’s impact and progress in regions such as the Middle-East and Sub-saharan Africa, and the critical role of continued UK support for education in emergencies and protracted crises.
We were also joined by Plan International UK’s Anna Darling (pictured), who represents civil society on the Executive Committee of ECW. She gave an insight into the crucial relationship between ECW and its civil society partners in both delivering education programming in emergencies and crises around the world, and generating funds and policy exchange from key donor partners to ECW.
The online event was well attended by parliamentarians, civil society representatives and academia. We look forward to continuing to provide a forum in parliament for key actors in the global education sector to engage with parliamentarians. We would like to thank both Yasmine and Anna for their time in joining us today.
